We obviously enjoy working with new media, but it's not about us or about cool technology: It's ALL ABOUT YOU and how new media can help meet your objectives. We design, develop and deliver new media. Read more to find out exactly what services we offer.

We've been designing web sites with a purpose since 1993. Sure, we occasionally design and build something just for fun. All work and no play, and all that. But when a paying customer comes to us with a design problem, we put the toys away and design a web site that not only looks wonderful, but provides a customized solution. We've created stunning and effective web sites for multi-national corporations and local artists, for global initiatives and provincial non-profits. Our client list is too extensive to post here, but if you really want to hear our brag-fest, just pull up a seat and we'd be happy to take you on the full tour.
Just because we looooove the web doesn't mean we've forgotten the importance of related print materials. From business cards to posters, from trade show displays to cakes (yes, we've designed printable cakes). Thanks to our extensive experience in print and the web, we know how to seamlessly integrate the two. And that saves our clients time and money.
Identity begins with understanding our clients. And that begins with in-depth interviews about their organizations, values ,aspirations and hurdles, interview techniques honed over 20 years of professional business journalism for some of Canada's top media outlets. We translate that understanding into authentic, eye-catching designs that truly represent who our clients are and what they do, commonly referred to as their 'brand'…
Exposing yourself on the street doesn't have to be a bad thing. And we don't care if you drive a car, a truck or a city bus. We can turn your visual message into customized vehicle graphics that passersby can't help but notice.
The digital world, for all its advantages, has also gained a reputation for adding complexity and constant change to our lives. And yes, we can feel your pain. Since we live and breathe new media, we believe that part of our job is to help ease the pain. Don't worry – we don't deliver random lectures on the esoteric details of our work (unless, of course, you specifically ask for it). On the other hand, we don't expect you to have a thorough, up-to-date understanding of new media and the impact an apparently minor decision can have. That's our job. And we're here to help. |

From one-pagers to web sites with more than 100,000 pages, from the totally static to the totally dynamic. We're known for extending the limits of web development tools, doing things you aren't supposed to be able to do. On time and within budget.
One of the old realities of web site projects was that the site design and construction were the inexpensive parts of the puzzle, and that the ongoing maintenance costs were the hole in the financial boat that would eventually drain you dry. Modern content management systems can put an end to maintenance pain. We don't want to keep your web site up to date. That's your job. And we make sure that our content systems let you do just that without having to become a web site guru.
Build a better mousetrap, the old saying goes, and the world will beat a path to your door. Not any more. Nowadays, millions of people are building better mousetraps but how the heck is the world supposed to know how to find them? Search engines, of course! We’ve been practicing Search Engine Optimization – legitimate search engine optimization – for as long as there have been search engines. And by ‘legitimate’, we mean using techniques that have consistently positive, long-term results and not just flash-in-the-pan tricks that only work until the search engines wise up to them. We’ve been using social media for decades – for personal and business purposes – and apply the lessons we’ve learned and continue to learn to help our clients get the most from their online properties.
Based on years of experience in network TV, we've continued to develop our expertise in digital video production, primarily for use online. Just as the relentless spread of television eclipsed the other mainstream media, video is commanding an ever-larger piece of the online pie with even traditional TV viewers turning to the web. If you've never heard of YouTube, this trend might come as a surprise to you. But every recent study of the topic clearly indicates that online video consumption is growing, and it's growing rapidly. Even newspapers – which have been among the industries hardest hit by the Internet – are figuring out that they have no choice but to join the relentless spread of online video. But we're not just video producers who decided to get online. We're video producers with deep web experience. So our productions are tailored to go online even before we turn on the lights and the cameras.
We began hosting web sites in 1993. The face of the Internet may have changed dramatically in the intervening years, but the basics have remained the same: reliable, cost-effective service with rapid response if and when there is a problem. We’ve delivered hundreds of millions of millions of web pages to visitors from around the world: words, pictures, and video. We provide a level of customer services that is repeatedly described as ‘remarkable’ and ‘unusual in this day and age’…it’s the level of service we demand for our own web properties and see no reason why our customers would expect anything less.
Whether it's providing the latest and greatest social media links that visitors can use to spread the word about your web site, or helping you set up a Facebook fan page, or helping you understand how and when to use corporate social networks like LinkedIn…we help you get the best from the tools that we use for our own company sites. We stay up to date by tuning in to the industry experts who are leading the way, and we pass that expertise down to our customers.
Not only is it environmentally friendly, it's also cost effective to deliver meetings, presentations and professional development sessions to an audience that can stay at home or in the office rather than spend hours or days travelling to be there. And just because the event is in one place and some or all of the audience is elsewhere, doesn't mean it's not interactive. We include live chat with our streaming video sessions. So that remote participants can ask questions and make comments that are shared with the people in the room. In situations in which simultaneous translation is a must, we can attach both official languages to the same video stream. Viewers can switch languages with the click of a button, and without any interruption in the video.
Of course we've designed, built and delivered content to digital signage networks. From storefronts to art gallery installations, and all controlled remotely and securely over the Internet. |
We're a small shop with just three principals - George Butters, Mila Jones & Stephen Butters - plus a whole gaggle of colleagues and contractors who we assemble into project teams. Our experience spans four decades and includes graphic design, writing, voice, photography and video work for print, radio, TV and the Internet. Our clients range from private individuals to major media outlets, from local non-profit organizations to the federal government. We love the challenges and the opportunities presented by new media. But our first priority is always delivering the best solution for each and every client.
Chief Executive Officer A former writer/broadcaster, George has been managing online digital media projects since 1993. He's our CEO and the crew chief for all of our multimedia productions. He's convinced that delivering professional development over the Internet is the future: it's green, it's efficient, and it's cost effective. (Don't ask him about this unless you have a LOT of spare time.) He knows it takes a great team to do great work...and NMD has a great team.

Front-End Developer Justin is a real nuts-n-bolts kind of guy who likes to get his hands dirty writing code and integrating design and content with CMS systems. When not working with our Art Director to bring websites to life, he's busy staying on top of the latest trends and technology.
Administration Lori is a professional organizer who manages the administrative tasks in our virtual office, including bookkeeping, organizing our files, and generally keeping us on track. |
